When the recently-restored 1937 Purdy commuter boat APHRODITE was relocated to its new winter home in Palm Beach, American Custom Yachts was asked to perform the finishing touches with a full repaint, varnish and new gold-leaf name application. This was quite an honor, considering the boat's illustrious history.
APHRODITE was built by the Purdy Boat Company for Wall Street financier, John Hay "Jock" Whitney, who became the executive producer of one of Hollywood's most memorable movies – Gone with the Wind. The 74′ commuter boat's guests over the years read like a "Who's Who" in the world of government, business and entertainment with such luminaries as Fred Astaire, Sir Laurence Olivier, Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, Henry Ford II and Nelson Rockefeller joining Whitney for summer jaunts down Long Island Sound.
